Funding Awarded for Various Projects across the 28th District, Mercuri says
HARRISBURG – Rep. Rob Mercuri (R- Allegheny) today announced the approval of near $870,000 in state funding for various projects across the 28th District consisting of projects in Richland, Hampton, and West Deer Townships.

Mercuri advocated for the funding through the Gaming Economic Development and Tourism Fund (GEDTF) Program. The GEDTF program provides funding for single-year and multi-year projects that promote development in Allegheny County, including economic, infrastructure, and community improvements, job trainings, public safety, and public interest. The money comes from the tax assessed on slot games in casinos.

In Richland Township, North Hills Council of Governments will receive $200,000 for installation and construction of an ADA playground and ADA accessible fire pit to the newly renovated barn in Richland Community Park. Richland Township Municipal Authority will see funding of $350,000, for the Chessrown Ave and Community Center Drive waterline replacements needed due to their age and frequency of breaks being experienced over the last few years.

In Hampton Township, Shaler-Hampton EMS, which supports a total of nine fire departments, will receive $118,000 to enhance their Firefighter Rehab program. The new enhancements and equipment will help in preventing the leading cause of responder death on a fire scene – cardiac arrest from exertion.

In West Deer Township, the West Deer Township Fire Company #3 West Deer Fire Station will receive $200,000 in order to make upgrades to their station and expand the existing parking area.

“Investing into these projects across our community is an essential part of protecting and providing a good life for our citizens” Mercuri said. “The funding going to these projects will go a long way in ensuring we are keeping our communities safe, as well as accessible for all.”

The 28th Legislative District is in Allegheny County and consists of parts of Hampton Township, Marshall Township, Pine Township, Richland Township and Pine Townships and Bradford Borough.
