Mercuri Commends Funding for Fire and EMS Companies in 28th District

HARRISBURG – Rep. Rob Mercuri (R-Allegheny) today announced 12 fire and emergency medical services (EMS) companies in the 28th Legislative District will collectively receive nearly $170,000 in state grants through the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Service Grant Program.

The grants were announced by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC) within the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA). The ongoing funding program was created by the General Assembly.

“Our communities’ first responders go above and beyond to risk their lives and sacrifice their time protecting our people.” Mercuri said “We owe them a debt of gratitude for always helping those in need. Thank to you all of the first responders, from our firefighters and paramedics to other emergency professionals around our area.”

The following list includes all the local fire and EMS companies in the 28th District and the funding from these grants:

• Richland EMS - $15,000.
• West Deer EMS - $15,000.
• West Deer Volunteer Fire Co. #3 - $16,952.
• West Deer Volunteer Fire Co #2 - $15,000.
• West Deer Volunteer Fire Department #1 - $13,256.
• Wexford Volunteer Fire Company - $16,952.
• Hampton Township Volunteer Fire Department 1 - $13,839.63.
• North Hampton Township Volunteer Fire Department - $15,979.38.
• McCandless Franklin Park Ambulance Authority - $15,000.
• Marshall Township Volunteer Fire Co. #1 - $15,006.77.
• Bradford Woods Volunteer Fire Co and Relief Association - $13,601.55.
• Shaler Hampton EMS -$15,000.

The OSFC manages financial assistance programs for the state’s fire, ambulance and rescue organizations intended to improve and enhance their abilities to provide firefighting, ambulance and rescue services.

To receive their grants and retain eligibility for the program, fire and ambulance companies’ paperwork must be submitted to the OSFC by July 1.
