HARRISBURG – Rep. Rob Mercuri (R-Allegheny) announced today that $575,000 in grants were awarded for improvement projects in the 28th District through the Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund (GEDTF).
These grant awards are intended to provide facilitate economic development in Allegheny County through a tax assessed on slot game revenues in casinos, administered by the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County (RAAC).
“As we continue our pursuit of improving the lives and futures of people and families in our region, it is important to make investments to continuously improve our community assets,” Mercuri said. “These deserving organizations provide our community with invaluable municipal services and recreation every day, and I am pleased to see this funding applied to encourage the continued growth, preservation and improvement of our region.”
Groups receiving the funding include:
• McCandless Franklin Park Ambulance Authority –$150,000 to upgrade and replace equipment in order to provide quality clinical care.
• Northland Public Library Authority –$150,000 to demolish the existing vestibule, raised patio and ramp at the library and replace it with a new vestibule with a sheltered, accessible entrance.
• Northern Regional Police Department – $100,000 to replace the current outdated radio equipment the police officers are using.
• Ingomar-North Recreation and Swimming Club Inc. – $75,000 to repair the pool pump, filtration and water mitigation for the pool, pump house and run off areas.
• Township of Pine – $50,000 to create a new hiking bridge across Wexford Run and a 300-foot asphalt trail to ensure safe hiker access from the current Harmony Trail trailhead west toward the new intersection.
• Allegheny Land Trust – $50,000 to expand and restore Blackburn Woods Conservation Area in Franklin Park.
