HARRISBURG – Following the mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, that claimed the lives of 19 elementary school students and two teachers, Rep. Rob Mercuri (R-Allegheny) released this statement:

"Our hearts are broken for the grieving families and community members in Texas and across the country following the unthinkable violence yesterday in Uvalde, Texas, that claimed the lives of 19 elementary school students and two teachers. This dark tragedy ended 21 innocent lives, all with bright futures ahead of them.

“I am committed to using my voice to encourage our citizens to contribute to a more positive world by being a friend, mentor and giver of hope to those who are lonely and marginalized. Every single person has inestimable value, and we must be good neighbors by being there for each other during the peaks and valleys of life. No member of our community or our nation should fear if they or their loved one will come home safely at the end of the day. As we mourn with the mothers and fathers in Texas today, let's grip hands with those within our reach to help ensure a safer, better life for each member of our community.”
